Its big,  it is awe-inspiring, its bad, its dangerous, its filled with wide open green spaces, it is beautiful and steeped in history. Here is a very very short guide to some of London's famous landmarks, just to give you an idea of what you may wish to go and see.

This is by no means a comprehensive guide, but a few photos to inspire you while you are here. With a little bit of info such as nearest tube station and links to the website of that particular attraction. Basically, we hope you like the photo's!

 

Big Ben With The Houses Of Parliament Next Door

 

 

 

The worlds largest  four face chiming clock  in the worlds largest clock tower. In a recent survey, it was voted Britain's favourite landmark.  The minute hand is fourteen feet long and the height of the tower is 316 feet. Located at the northern end of the houses of Parliament, you can't miss it, it is pretty tall!

Westminster Abbey

A monument to our history, poets, kings, queens, statesmen, and villains are all associated with this legendary cathedral. First founded by monks in 960 AD the original abbey was the place William the conqueror was crowned in 1066. It is the final resting place of 17 kings and queens of England. The present church was began in 1245 by Henry III and is the place where the next royal wedding between Prince William And Kate Middleton will take place this year. The building houses art treasures, paintings, stained glass, textiles and other artefacts.

Open Monday to Saturday and free entry, donations can be made if you wish.

Then why not walk over the Westminster bridge and after crossing the mighty River Thames you get.....

The London Eye

The largest the world’s largest cantilevered observation it stands a massive 135 metres high. The slow ride to the top is a smooth experience and from the top you see London in scale. The winding river to the sea on one side, the planes lifting from Heathrow the other. A must do for many vacation travellers and tourists alike it's not cheap, but a modern London icon it certainly is.

The Tower of London

 

 

The world famous tower of London has been the temporary home to many an unfortunate monarch over the ages. Many have been locked in the tower and a fair few have been executed there on tower green (not to mention three of King Henry VIII's poor wives!). The tower has a great informative website listing the top ten attractions such as raven spotting, Yeoman warder tours and the crown jewels. There is information for family days out. There is certainly plenty to do.....
